Challenges

Though they are different and independent from one another, the l’Association montréalaise des directions d’établissement scolaire (AMDES) and the l’Association québécoise du personnel de direction des écoles (AQPDE) share a desire: showing the importance of their professional field. When education-related issues are debated in the media, headmasters are rarely given a say. There is also little public knowledge of the true nature of this profession. In short: the true measure of the job of leading a school is not recognized and this needed to be changed.

Solutions

In order to truly value the profession, the two associations – representing nearly 1,000 school headmasters – have agreed to join forces to organize the first edition of the Semaine québécoise des directions d’école, which took place from October 16th to the 22nd 2011. The Prospek team managed all communications surrounding the event, including the organization of a press conference and the creation of all communication tools (print or other).

Results

In the media, the Semaine québécoise des directions d’école was very well covered. Not only did it make the front page (as well as pages 2 and 3) of the October 17th issue of La Presse, the event was covered by televised and radio newscasts and was featured on the must-see list of the Radio-Canada website. Websites for both associations got record visits on October 17th. But, more than the quantity, it’s the quality of he coverage made the difference. Most reports of the event contained key messages developed for the event.
